I immediately knew I wanted the art to be a certain style. I wanted to keep the sprites close to basic shapes like circles and rectangles. When splitting the sprite apart the frog looks like the following:

And stitched together it looks like this:

To give more life to the frog I added animations. Walking, Idle and sticking his tongue out. The last one was the most important to get right, it was part of the core gameplay after all. I had to make sure the timing was perfect and the animation looked smooth and believable.

Next I focused on sound design for the game. I added sound effects for the frog eating the flies and the background ambience of the pond. I also added a fun, upbeat soundtrack to make the game more engaging and enjoyable.

I’m satisfied by the final result, but wanted to make the game go a little more in depth before publishing. Ah, time constraints :)
